20 Biggest Concept Cars to Reality Misses

#18. Lexus LF-Sa Concept

Lexus has chosen a styling trademark. The spindle grille has been added on every single vehicle for the last several years. Lexus has said that is who they are. Alright! Some people like it, some people don’t. But at least they are consistent. The plan behind this concept was flawed and thankfully didn’t head towards production.

What Lexus Was Thinking

Lexus wanted to create a sub compact concept car. It’s a section of the market that the Toyota brand has certainly attacked, but they’ve never used the Lexus mark to go into it. The LF-Sa concept was supposed to be the Lexus choice. Lexus made some questionable choices on styling.

Lexus must have consulted the set designer for Game of Thrones when they were creating this concept car. The spindle grille made be a trademark, but how far is too far? The spindle grille on the subcompact concept looks like some sort of metal robot baby is trying to push out of the engine. It’s an enormous sheet of corrugated metal. Beyond that, the wheels have multiple swords on each wheel sticking out from the middle. The car looks like one of those vehicles from old cartoons the villain would drive. At some point, the villain would flip a switch and the spinning blades would go out to destroy the good guys tires.

What The Public Thought of It

People who buy subcompact cars usually aren’t attempting to start vehicular warfare. People thought it was a neat vehicle in some ways, but that it had lost the plot when it came to styling. People were a bit put off at the thought of Lexus making a subcompact anyway. If the option is to purchase an expensive tiny car, then it’s more likely the buyer will purchase a larger car. There’s a size to luxury ratio that matters! This vehicle would be far too high on the luxury part of that ratio.
