The vast majority of the vehicles on this list come from America and Japan. It’s possible that they just are willing to take more chances on things. Their concept cars are farther from reality. Their willingness to greenlight bad vehicles from good concepts is higher! The European car companies aren’t taking as many chances. Well, this Citroen concept car proves they wanted in on the list too!

What Was Citroen Thinking

Citroen was likely trying to create something fun. The opinion of Citroen on the street is that they are dull and boring and make boxy utility cars that are purchased, but not loved. Citroen likely took a look at the love that cult vehicles like the VW bus and others have produced in communities. That kind of fandom can only be caused when you take risks with vehicles.

So Citroen wanted to make a sort of party bus. They wanted to take a vehicle and allow it to be a great road trip car for young people. Something they could have a great time in until the driver announced: “we’re here”. The Tubik certainly tried.

What the Public Thought of the Concept Car

Actually, the public reaction was at first pretty excited. Just looking at it, people thought of good times and parties. It’s always good when a first impression is positive. Gull wing doors and the appearance actually resonated. However the more people took a detailed look at the Tubik, the more they were concerned. The seating allows for folding the middle seats to provide space instead of the rear seats if someone wants to bring any cargo. The people in front are sitting in a circular tube that stretches across the vehicle. Then they came back to the gull wing doors. The driver side door isn’t a true gull wing, but it’s certainly awkward and awful like one.

The public likes versatility in their vehicles now. The Tubik lacks the versatility you could get from a crossover, an SUV or a minivan. All it can do is look funky and travel with people inside. That’s just not enough anymore.
