Mercedes C-Class – 10 Million Sold
Luxury imports often get a bad rap for reliability, cost of maintenance, general performance relative to price, and resale value. Most don’t sell with astounding production numbers, instead of catering to small markets. But that’s not the case for the well-equipped, luxurious Mercedes C-Class. No, this is a proper German engineered sportscar boasting over 10 million units sold in the U.S., Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
The C-Class eschews most of those stigmas attached to the brand and other luxury imports, affording owners with surprising reliability and opulent sportiness. Available as a gas- or diesel-powered saloon, the C-Class features high levels of comfort, excellent handling and performance, day-to-day practicality, and a long life. In fact, some C-Class taxis in foreign states have been shown ferrying customers through bustling metropolis with million-mile odometers.
Introduced in 1993, the C-Class was marketed as a replacement for the aging 190 range Mercedes. Built primarily in Germany, the C-Class’s three generations have all held the same general styling appointments, sporting a long, swooping side profile from taillight to headlight, single-pane taillights, and a relatively homogenous front grill. Little has changed since its original roll-out, with the C-Class only receiving comfort and performance improvements to preserve its carefully perfected formula.
