Range Rover
The modern Range Rover is a testament to luxury and class. But that’s not where the Range Rover came from. The Range Rover came from the swamps. It came from the valleys and mountains. Though in reality, mostly it came from the repair shops….. While the modern Range Rovers are luxury SUVs that can also go off-road with aplomb, most of the people who can afford them now don’t really want to go off-road.
Brilliant Engineering
The original range rover ran from 1970 until 1996. It was a tremendous car. It was designed to go anywhere in the world and generally had no problem doing so. The Range Rover had a box on frame set up like most trucks. However, the Range Rover used coil springs. Most trucks at the time chose leaf springs. Those leaf springs can sometimes reduce ride height, and the Range Rover was all about ride height. Range Rover had a variety of V8 engines or turbo diesel if you didn’t feel like gasoline.
One of the best things about the Range Rover was the long wheelbase and lack of vehicle that stuck out over the front and rear. This allowed the Range Rover to go up and down inclines that other vehicles couldn’t even come close to managing.
However…
There was a caveat with the original Range Rover. It rarely worked. While it was designed by a genius with a passion for vehicles, it was then produced in the United Kingdom. Production cut corners and precision was something that never came into it. In most cars, you might hear a whistle from a loose seal. In an original Range Rover, you heard a full symphony. It was a disappointment because the car had such potential to be a genius and be something that you could trust to make it past the driveway before it broke down.
