The new Mercedes-Benz GLE
The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is available as either a coupe or an SUV and is among the best-selling models from the luxury automaker. It has a long list of high-end features and lets you take advantage of extensive customization.
Basic Configuration Options
GLE SUV
When configuring the 2019 GLE, you will have many options, starting with the choice of either an SUV or a coupe. The coupe features a sloping roofline that leads to a sleeker silhouette but does take away some of the interior headroom. The SUV has a traditional shape with extra interior space. From there, you can choose from the GLE350, GLE550e, AMG GLE43, or GLE63. There is then a range of options and packages to supplement your GLE.
Performance
GLE Coupe
The base version of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 302 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. It also features a seven-speed automatic gearbox for responsive driving and lively acceleration. The plug-in hybrid supplements this engine with electric motors to manage zero to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds thanks to 436 horsepower. This model can also travel 21 miles on just electric power. With the GLE550e, you also get four driving modes and only need about two hours to charge the battery.
The AMG GLEs can hit the 60-mph mark in less than five seconds. The GLE43 uses a 3.0-liter V6 that is twin-turbocharged for an output of 385 horsepower and 384 pound-feet. It uses all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic. At the top of the lineup, you will find the GLE63 and the GLE63S. These models use a V8 that is twin-turbocharged to deliver 550 horsepower and 516 pound-feet for the GLE63 and 577 horsepower and 561 pound-feet for the GLE63S. The GLE63S only needs 4.1 seconds to reach 60 mph. There are also five driving modes on the GLE-Class models to adjust steering, powertrain, drivetrain, and suspension. When configured correctly, the Mercedes-Benz GLE can tow up to 7,200 pounds.
Seating and Interior
Although you can fit five adults in the Mercedes-Benz GLE, sticking to four will be more comfortable, especially with the coupe. The front passengers get lots of support, although only the driver gets standard power adjustment. The standard synthetic leather is nice, or you can upgrade. In terms of space, the GLE SUV has 38 cubic feet with the rear seats upright or 80.3 cubes when you fold them down. The coupe drops the cargo space to just 23 cubes with the rear seats upright. However, it does have a flat cargo floor that is wide to make up for lost height.
