Review: The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette is the latest version of the classic sports car and is available in several models, each with their own power and price tag. The ZR1 is the big news for the 2019 model year as it delivers 755 horsepower and offers amazing thrills for those who want to spend a bit more.

The Models

As mentioned, there are four main models of the 2019 Corvette and each of those has its own trim levels. Both the Stingray and Grand Sport can be configured as a 1LT, 2LT, or 3LT. The Z06 is available as a 1LZ, 2LZ, or 3LZ. Finally, the new Corvette ZR1 is offered as a 1ZR or 3ZR.

Powertrains

2019 Corvette ZR1

If you stick to Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray or Grand Sport, you will get to take advantage of a 6.2-liter V8 powertrain with 455 horsepower and a torque of 460 pound-feet. This works with a 7-speed manual transmission that has automatic rev-matched downshifts or an optional 8-speed automatic. For more power, upgrade to the Corvette Z06 with its supercharged V8 that generates 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet. It also features a unique sport-tuned suspension that has adaptive dampers, larger brakes, expanded cooling vents, and an aerodynamic package that is more aggressive, all to enhance performance. As mentioned, the Corvette ZR1 is new for the 2019 model year. It has 755 horsepower to go with 715 pound-feet of torque.

Behind the Wheel

2019 Corvette Interior

All 2019 Corvettes deliver power across the rev range, giving you a fun driving experience. While the Z06 and ZR1 have more power, most drivers will be perfectly content with the base 6.2-liter V8. As you drive, you will notice that it’s nicely weighted and has precise steering. The only downside is a lack of road feel delivered by the steering wheel. However, this is not a huge issue given the Corvette’s excellent grip. If you opt for the manual transmission, you will find easy shifting with a linear throttle response and predictable clutch uptake.

Comfort and Features

The Corvette is a two-seater as it has been in past years. So, this is not appropriate for a family vehicle. It does, however, deliver the comfort you want for both you and your passenger. Leather upholstery and power-adjustability come standard for both the front seats and steering wheel. In the 2LT and up, you also get heated and ventilated seats with enhanced power adjustment, memory settings, and upgraded interior trim. By the 3LT, you get premium leather upholstery as well.

The list of standard features is also nice from a technological perspective. All 2019 Chevrolet Corvettes have OnStar that includes 4G LTE data with Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, a driver information display, and Bluetooth. They also have a rearview camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, two USB ports, nine Bose speakers, an 8-inch touchscreen featuring MyLink infotainment, and satellite radio. Upgrading to the Corvette Stingray 2LT or higher will also give you front-view parking cameras and a head-up display plus 10 speakers. A navigation system that includes the performance data recorder Corvette enthusiasts love arrives at the 3LT level.
