Check the Tire Pressure Regularly
When owning a sports car that can go rather fast, you have to ensure every part of your car is ready to run as quickly and effortlessly as possible. To start, you will have to check on the tire pressure in your vehicle on a regular basis. You should read your owner’s manual or a label inside your car to see what the optimal tire pressure for your vehicle is. The label may be found inside a door or under the gas cap cover. Check every month and make sure you fill your tires properly so you can actually attain the fast speeds you want to reach.
Accelerate Properly
You won’t reach the fastest speeds in your car unless you know how to accelerate right. When you get ready from the start, gradually allow the vehicle to move from the first gear to at least the third in a calm manner. At this point, it should be easier for your vehicle to get to the fastest speeds possible. This can especially conserve power and fuel if used right. Fortunately, gear ratios on today’s sports cars are relatively short enough to where you can easily get from one gear to the next in a second or two without any delay.
Speed Up Properly After Turning
You will need to slow down as you make a proper turn in your sports car. Squeeze on the throttle after you have nailed the top spot in the turn and the steering opens up again. This should give your tires enough power to complete the turn. This also keeps you from having to slow down far too much after you have finished that turn. You should have a better speed coming out of the turn when you do this properly. Make sure the speed is checked carefully though and that you still have enough control over the turn as you head into the curve.
Use Trail Braking
Trail braking is a practice that lets you gradually use the brakes as you turn. This is ideal on winding roads that have a few curves. With trail braking, you will release the brake after you get into a turn. This allows the transfer of weight from one side to the next to run smoothly. The front tires will also have an easier time handling a great grip. Be cautious when using this and make sure you allow the car to slow down enough to where you can continue to hold a grip. As you do this, you’ll have an easier time getting the car moving forward again.
Keep Your Hands At the Right Position
The way how you handle the steering wheel makes more of a difference in going fast than you might think. You must always keep your hands at the 9 and 3 points no matter how much you turn the vehicle. This is to not only have full control over the car but to also keep the steering from being as intense or extreme as it could be. This allows you to steer properly while keeping your car moving quickly as you head down a curve. The drag on the car will be reduced while the weight will shift properly and quickly.
Use the Proper Grade of Gas
You could technically use a lower grade of gasoline in your sports car. However, that would make it harder for your engine to run. Gasoline that works at a higher grade, or at least closer to the recommended value your car needs, can keep your engine from knocking or struggling to accelerate quickly. While lower-grade fuel is not going to hurt your vehicle’s engine, it will keep it from reaching its fullest potential. Make sure you stick with the recommended grade of gas for your car regardless of how much it might cost for you to fill up your tank.
Check the Exhaust
Many sports cars come with restrictive exhaust systems. This is primarily to keep noise levels down. However, this also makes it harder for your engine to use all its power. You should replace the exhaust system in your sports car with one that allows enough air to move out from the car. This allows the engine to keep from overheating easily. As a result, it will get you out there faster and more efficiently. You may experience some benefits in how it accelerates too. A dual exhaust pipe may help with getting more air out in as little time as possible.
Check Your Oil Regularly
It is true that you don’t necessarily have to get your oil changed in your sports car every 3,000 miles. Your manual might say that you can get 5,000 miles before a change. However, you must check your oil regularly to ensure that you have enough of it in your engine. This is to help you keep the car engine lubricated so it won’t wear out quickly. Also, a better lubricated engine will run faster and create enough energy to help you move forward the right way. This can help you with getting somewhere quickly if you know how to make it work.
Watch Your Windows
One of the most popular things you might notice in sports car ads is a person driving a car with the windows down to feel the breeze in one’s air. This is not always good to do as it makes it harder for the car to move forward quickly. It creates a bit of drag on the vehicle. This comes from the added pressure caused by the wind as it holds back the vehicle. Keep your windows up if you want to go faster. Also, check on the seals around your windows to see that they are secure and not letting in lots of air.
Take It To a Racing Track
It never hurts to see what your sports car can do at a racing track. Bring your vehicle out to a local racing track if it offer open driving sessions. Check out what’s available and get a hang of the track. Drive your car along it for a few laps before really kicking up the speed. Do be sure you have the proper protective materials though. A track should provide them to you. Also, be advised that you are typically liable for any damages that may occur in the event of a wreck or other significant problem involving your car.
