Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 is one of the most popular pickups on the market and known for its incredible dependability. The Ram 1500 began production in 1981 and is the full-size light-duty pickup truck. Those who need more power for towing and hauling will find similar styling and dependability but greater abilities in the heavy-duty Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. In addition to solid consumer ratings and reviews, the Ram 1500 has many awards under its belt to prove its reliability. These include being the Motor Trend Truck of the Year for an impressive five times, including 1994, 2003, 2010, 2013, and 2014.
The warranty that comes with the Ram 1500 also stands out. The 36,000-mile/3-year limited warranty and 60,000-mile/5-year powertrain warranty for gas engines are fairly standard in the industry. However, the diesel powertrain warranties show an incredible amount of confidence on the part of Dodge, as they last 100,000 miles or five years.
Now in its 2019 model year, the Ram 1500 is a tough challenger for other pickups. There are seven trim levels to choose from plus two different bed lengths and either an extended or crew cab. However, a regular cab will be added later. In the Crew Cab models, the Ram 1500 rear seats have 4 more inches of legroom than the previous year.
All models have at least luxurious undertones, if not outright luxury features. Every 2019 Ram 1500 comes with at least a 5-inch touchscreen. Yet you get an 8.4-inch version with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on most trims. Some even have a 12-inch screen that is vertical instead of horizontal and incorporates controls for most functions other than climate control. There are also plenty of advanced safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and automatic emergency braking.
The Ram 1500 comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 305 horsepower along with 269 pound-feet of torque. That V6 now works with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, eTorque, which delivers 90 pound-feet of torque with the goal of enhancing fuel economy. Those who want more power will find that the 5.7-liter V8 also offers the eTorque system and delivers 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet. The V8 also can conserve fuel by running on just half the cylinders.
Regardless of the engine, the Ram 1500 works with an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can choose from rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, the latter of which can include a full-time or part-time transfer case. When configured correctly, this Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds.
