20 Most Dependable Cars on the Market

Kia Forte Koup

2016 Forte Koup

While the Kia Forte still exists as a new model, the same cannot be said for the Kia Forte Koup in the United States, which lasted until the 2016 model year. Despite not being available as a new model, the Forte Koup has a strong reputation for reliability along with the ability to deliver the features drivers love from the Kia Forte. The Forte Koup is the brand’s very first two-door compact coupe and its first sporty offering. Compared to the Forte sedan, the Forte Koup has a sportier suspension to enhance driving dynamics and features an available turbocharged engine.

The Forte Koup began as a concept car that was unveiled during the 2008 New York International Auto Show. It had a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and was known as the Kia Coupe.

The Kia Forte Koup arrived as a 2009 model year with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder or a 2.4-liter and the choice of a manual transmission or an automatic. The sportiest version of the Forte Koup, the SX, included larger brake pads, 17-inch alloy wheels, and more aggressive styling on the exterior. The second generation of the Forte Koup arrived for 2014, which is also when the already dependable engines were upgraded. At this point, it had a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine as standard with the SX trim featuring a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 201 horsepower. Either engine delivered more power than the base Forte. The second-generation Forte Koup also had even more standard features you could depend on, such as Bluetooth, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and integrated audio controls on the leather-wrapped steering wheel.

You are unlikely to find someone who considers the Kia Forte Koup to be a performance auto, but you will find plenty of fans of this vehicle. The turbocharged engine has more than enough power, although you will not notice much variation between the three modes in the FlexSteer system.

The Forte Koup does still exist in other markets as a new vehicle, including in Canada where it got an upgrade the same year it was discontinued in the United States. For the 2017 model year, it still had two trim levels in Canada, with the EX getting an all-new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine borrowed from the sedan for 164 horsepower.
