Kia Niro
The Kia Niro has strong dependability ratings, with J.D. Power, the industry authority on these rankings, rating it as having better reliability than most. To complement that praise, the Niro gives new owners peace of mind with its 60,000-mile/five-year limited warranty, 100,000-mile/10-year limited powertrain warranty, and the 100,000-mile/10-year warranty on certain hybrid components.
The Niro’s reputation for reliability comes from more than just J.D. Power. The 2018 ownership survey from Driver Power ranked the Niro as second place in reliability out of a whopping 75 cars thanks to its 93.07-percent overall satisfaction score. Just some of the areas that received the highest praise from owners for functionality and dependability included the seats, interior, ride comfort, safety features, and highly-ranked user-friendly infotainment system. The only areas that owners cited for improvement were trunk space and performance. Similarly, Consumer Reports rated the 2017 Kia Niro as having the highest predicted reliability based on survey responses from 400,000 subscribers.
The Kia Niro’s recognition for its dependability is impressive, particularly considering it just arrived for the 2017 model year. In fact, the Niro began manufacturing in 2016 and didn’t release in the U.S. until early 2018, launching in the U.K. in late 2017 and South Korea in March 2016. Much of the reliability, however, comes from the fact that the Niro borrows components from other proven Kia models. Additionally, its early reviews and owner satisfaction helped it start off with a bang, particularly from markets with an earlier release than in the U.S.
The Kia Niro is always a hybrid model and is a subcompact crossover. This type of powertrain leads to its combined 139 horsepower, which makes it obvious why some owners would want a bit more power. The Niro’s target driver, however, is someone who wants to maximize efficiency and does not need much space or power. Achieving between 43 and 50 mpg, the Niro certainly delivers the promised fuel economy, and thanks to its small size, its horsepower is enough for the average driver. A Niro Plug-In Hybrid will arrive in the near future which will likely get similarly high dependability ratings.
