#12. Nissan Murano Cross-Cabriolet – Utility Means Having a Giant Stowaway Roof!

Sometimes car companies rush to try to be innovative. Like competing news companies, they want to be the first to market with news (or in this case, terrible cars). Nissan is no different. Nissan as a company has been through some huge lows and huge highs as a company. Despite being on a high, they still thought this was a good idea.
What Nissan Was Thinking
Nissan had been doing an incredible job in the emerging markets. Their vehicles were all selling well and they were growing at a time that a lot of companies were dropping a lot of sales. Nissan wanted to keep the momentum going. It wanted another vehicle that was different from the vehicles being released elsewhere.
Well, choosing to make a convertible out of a crossover vehicle is definitely going out and creating something new. I guess Nissan had decided that almost every car had been done before. So why not just make something a convertible. Regular cars being turned into convertibles has been done. So Nissan wanted to take their Murano crossover and chop the top!

What The Consumer Was Thinking
It was like the entire car buying public had been roofied at the exact same time. They all woke up looking at the Murano Cross-Cabriolet wondering what had just happened. It was mass confusion as to why this car existed. Sport utility vehicles and crossover utility vehicles are purchased because the consumer wants a vehicle that can handle multiple situations. They are bought for cargo space and room for lots of people.
The Murano Cross-Cabriolet is none of those things. Except perhaps it has enough room for people. Any convertible loses a lot of storage space thanks to the retractable roof. There’s no way around it. The Murano took all the benefits that a crossover is supposed to have and got rid of them so that it could be a tall convertible.
