- KTM Freeride-E
Range: One Hour Per Battery Pack
The KTM Freeride-E is one of our listings not currently existing in North America. However, like the others on this list, it is close to coming soon. KTM makes some of the best dirt bikes in the world and some great hybrid motorcycles. Well, the KTM Freeride E is their way of showing that petrol isn’t going to hold them hostage. When the oil runs out, KTM bikes are still going to be flinging themselves up into the air over jumps with reckless abandon.
Alright, so yes, this bike is only available in Europe. But that’s for now. As demand increases in the North America, KTM will bring it over.
Unlike a lot of electric vehicles, you don’t need to charge the bike directly while riding. If you order more than one power pack, you’re able to charge the power packs independently. This means that you can swap out the battery pack once the first is extinguished and keep riding. Each battery pack lasts for approximately one hour. This is kind of perfect if you’re out riding trails or taking jumps. It’s less than ideal if you are just out for a long drive. It’s better as a part time dirtbike that you have taken via a trailer to your drive locations.
KTM has placed a really nice engine control unit on the front of the vehicle. It lets you see everything you need to see clearly. The power display is especially useful and easy to see. This means you’re never going to always have plenty of warning when you’re running low to get back to your cache of battery packs.
The KTM Freeride-E currently is only priced in euros but should come in somewhere around $15,000 to $16,000. This is about the same as other electric dirt bikes cost, so it’s competitive. Considering the versatility and being able to use multiple battery packs, it’s a really interesting option.
