Range: 41-82 miles
Zero makes three models of their bikes and uses two very excellent electric engines as options for them. The Zero FX is their dirt bike style motorcycle. Zero also makes the S and the SR if you’re not looking to get dirty and you want to stay on the pavement. Road motorcycles aren’t going to be the only vehicles that go electric. Depending on your needs, the Zero FX comes with three different options. The first two are modular power pack options. This means that you can have more that one battery pack available to you. This is especially useful for dirt bikes. The nature of them requires acceleration and deceleration as you go over bumps and hills. That is going to drain the battery on any electric vehicle a lot faster than traveling over the pavement. The FX has ZF3.3 and ZF6.5 options that are modular. The ZF3.3 has a battery pack that is half the size of the ZF6.6. This obviously means it has half the of the range. So if you’re planning on longer trips and need more battery power, you need to go with the ZF6.5 modular. There’s also a straight plug in option ZF6.5. This model has only a single built-in battery pack. Like an electric car, you’re going to have to plug the bike directly into a charging station to get the juice you need.
Dirt bikes can be expensive. Thankfully the Zero FX comes in at a pretty reasonable cost. Depending on the model you’re looking at, you’re talking between $8,000 and $10,000. For a brand new electric bike that you’re never going to have to pay fuel for, its a great price! This is enough to get the versatile and cheap Zero FX onto our list of the top 15 electric motorcycles.
