#2. Energica Ego – Energica
Range: 93 miles
Everyone knows Italian sports cars are just better. There are those who claim the technical proficiency of Japanese cars is superior. Some claim the raw power of the American car is better. Others argue that German sophistication and elegance makes a better sports car. But Italian cars have an almost sensual feel that takes all of the things above and turns them into a work of art. Even those who bang the drum for other countries vehicles grudgingly respect the Italian sports car. Their motorcycles are no different.
The Energica Ego is Italian motoring updated for the future. Everything about the bike is done “just so” and created with an attention to detail that you just can’t get from producers in any other country. While the Ego isn’t the fastest bike on this list (#1 is), it’s incredibly fast and is actually maximum speed limited to 149 miles per hour. The designers know you really don’t need to do 150mph on this motorcycle. In order to be able to do all of this, the bike is equipped with 136 hp and produces 144 lb-ft torque.
The Ego is capable of taking advantage of DC fast charge stations. Meaning they can be ready to go again in only 30 minutes! If it’s a basic level 2 charger, it’s going to take 3.5 hours before the Ego is ready to be taken back on the street.
The Ego also has a lot of great features for a bike. In addition to a park assistance feature, it has a solid 100-meter Bluetooth range. If you’re monitoring your battery, a color display shows the current bike status including charge.
The Ego doesn’t come cheap. At $34,000 it’s certainly one of the more expensive options on this list. But it’s a bike that’s beautiful to behold. It’s a true pleasure if you’re standing back and looking at it, or lucky enough to be touring down beautiful tree lined street while mounted on it.
