#6. Johammer J1 – Johammer
Range: 120 Miles
This electric Austrian cruiser bike asks you to do one thing. It wants you to suspend everything you know about motorcycles and then start over. Okay, have you done that? Now, look at it. The design is radically different from anything commonly seen on the road. So why would they build it that way? It’s not just for appearance’s sake.
The Austrian company is actually an engineering firm. The goal in the bike was to provide better range and reliability. Rather than have the engine in the middle like a traditional bike, the J1 electric engine is actually incorporated into the wheel itself! This means that it has a shorter distance to go to transfer the power.
As we mentioned, the appearance is something very different from other bikes. The Pure aluminum cover has a purpose though. It is specially designed to absorb any additional shocks to the bike. This transfers any force away from the delicate electricals.
One of the most interesting features is the mirrors. That’s probably not something that’s been said about any bike in a very long time. However, the mirrors work as function heads up displays. The display within the mirrors gives you all the information you need to know about your bike. You track your speed and charge right there. If that doesn’t keep you checking your mirrors, nothing will.
The J1 isn’t the fastest bike out there. It only has a top speed of 75mph and the 0-60 time clocks in at 8 seconds. That being said, does it need more? The bike is designed for range. Considering that’s the primary goal, there should be more than enough power involved.
The J1 is currently retailing for about $27,000 in Europe. It’s not yet available in the United States, but it is known that Johammer is looking to expand following the success of the bike and hopefully will be on these shores soon!
