Affordable Cars: 2009 Hyundai Genesis

In the search for an affordable vehicle, the 2009 Hyundai Genesis will always be an excellent option. As Hyundai’s most luxurious model, you can expect even the 2009 version of the Genesis to be loaded with the features you want, plus a heavy dose of high-end materials. Pricing for the 2009 Genesis will vary based on a long list of factors. U.S. News & World Report has the average price listed as between $6,600 and $7,000, so you will likely pay something close to this range. That figure is certainly affordable, particularly when you factor in the high-end amenities inside.

Your Choice of Engine

As you search for a 2009 Hyundai Genesis, you will notice there are Genesis 3.8 and Genesis 4.6 models. The Genesis 3.8 runs on a 3.8-liter V6 with 290 horsepower. Meanwhile, the Genesis 4.6 has a 4.6-liter V8 with 375 horsepower. Either model will give you a 6-speed automatic transmission, but keep in mind that the V8 suggests using premium unleaded fuel. If you opt for a Genesis 4.6, it will reach 60 mph in under 6 seconds. Either model has respectable efficiency, with the Genesis 3.8 getting 27 mpg on the highway. As you drive, expect a sophisticated suspension with well-controlled drive motions and predictable handling.

Plenty of Luxury

One of the great things about the 2009 Genesis is that you can experience a luxury sedan without breaking your budget. All models will at least have cruise control, seven speakers, power heated side mirrors, a power sunroof, a proximity entry system, dual-zone climate control, and heated leather seats. Other standard features include XM Satellite Radio and iPod/USB inputs. If you find a Genesis 4.6, you will also get premium upholstery, rain-sensing wipers, a rear sunshade, and leather on the dashboard.

Features to Look Out for

During your search, be on the lookout for additional features that were offered either as standalone options or packages. The Technology Package added ultrasonic parking sensors in the front and rear, adaptive front lighting, a heated plus cooled seat for the driver, a DVD changer, and a navigation system. Or you can find a model with the Lexicon surround sound audio system with 17 speakers and a 500-watt output. Any model with the navigation system will also have NavTraffic service and a Bluetooth interface.

Premium Styling

The Hyundai Genesis has aged well, with its styling still easily considered modern and tasteful. At the time of its release, experts agreed it felt like a high-end luxury auto. The only downside was its somewhat generic feel. Put simply, the Genesis took inspiration from other luxury vehicles in styling, borrowing bits and pieces from each. The only truly standout feature in terms of styling is its brightly colored and prominent grille. The interior takes a different approach, however. It stands out with materials, surfaces, and hues that will make you forget you are behind the wheel of a Hyundai. Between the premium leather and glossy wood, it feels as if it should be in the lineup of a traditional luxury brand.
