Testing The Stock F-150

The F-150 is an incredibly popular pickup known for its power, capability, and reliability. Go through and take a look at the stock F-150 models since 2015, paying attention to the various models to compare their performance. Specifically, the V8, EcoBoost, Diesel, and Raptor went through various tests. Justin from American Trucks led the testing, giving us insight via stock Dyno’d runs with the most popular configurations.

Testing the Autos

All of the testing runs for the Ford F-150 models were performed using a Dynojet 224 XLC in a climate-controlled room. That means that the runs were fairly consistent, allowing for reasonable comparison.

EcoBoost 2.7-Liter

First up is the 2.7-liter EcoBoost from 2015. In the testing, this truck was able to deliver 263 horsepower and 328 pound-feet of torque. Once the EcoBoost reached its levels, it more or less stayed within the high range.

Turbo Diesel

Next up was the 3-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel F-150. This model was from 2018 and produced 223 horsepower and 392 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the EcoBoost, the turbo diesel engine showed a sharp rise to the power and torque, followed by a similarly sharp decline.

EcoBoost 3.5-Liter

The 3.5-liter EcoBoost F-150 was next in the testing process, getting up to 305 horsepower and 351 pound-feet of torque. Looking at the chart from this 2015 model, it had a sharp rise but then remained steadier than the turbo diesel.

Coyote V8

Next up, the 5-liter Coyote V8 F-150 showed that it lives up to its name. This was a 2018 model year F-150, and it reached 341 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque. Like the EcoBoost engines, the Coyote V8 hit a high note and mostly stayed there.

EcoBoost 3.5-Liter High Output

Showing the variety of F-150 EcoBoost models available, Justin tested yet another one: the 3.5-liter High Output EcoBoost F-150 Raptor from 2017. This engine lives up to its name, hitting 359 horsepower and 396 pound-feet of torque very quickly and remaining at close to full power.

Ranking the Performance

Based on the performance during American Trucks’ testing, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost Raptor got the most horsepower, with 359 hp. The diesel 3.0-liter and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost Raptor were at the head of the pack for torque, with 392 and 396 pound-feet of torque, respectively. The 3.0-liter Diesel may have taken the lead for torque, but it fell behind with horsepower, just reaching 223, the lowest of the bunch.

What About the Current F-150?

To put those figures into perspective, take a look at the most recent F-150, the 2019 model year. There are six production engines, each with their own figures. According to Ford, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost produces 470 pound-feet of torque, which is the best-in-class figure, and 375 horsepower. The High-Output 3.5-liter EcoBoost in the Raptor delivers best-in-class 450 horsepower plus 510 pound-feet of torque. Current Ford F-150 engines also include the 325-horsepower, 400-pound-foot 2.7-liter Turbocharged EcoBoost; 290-horsepower, 265-pound-foot 3.3-liter Ti-VCT V6; 395-horsepower, 400-pound-foot 5-liter Ti-VCT V8; and the class-leading 250-horsepower, 440-pound-foot 3-liter Power Stroke Turbodiesel.
