Affordable Trucks: 2007 F-150

The 2007 F-150 may be over a decade old, but it is still a great buy, particularly if you are on a budget and do not need any fancy new features, like a rearview camera. The prices for this model today vary greatly. However, you should be able to find one for a relatively cheap amount if you want. Or you can just save tens of thousands of dollars over a new truck while still enjoying towing, power, and comfort.

Incredible Variety

Part of the reason for the vast price differences between different 2007 F-150 models is that sheer number of configurations available. At release, there were more than 60 body configurations. You can find a basic work truck, a luxurious pickup, a heavier-duty hauler, or some combination. After all, there were three cabin sizes and five trim levels, without even considering engines, transmissions, and other customization options. There were also numerous packages available, like the FX2 Sport Package with 18-inch wheels, fog lamps, body-colored grille surround, unique center console, and more.

What It Can Do

For a pickup truck, one of the most important factors is what the engine can output, and the F-150 has enough powertrains to satisfy even picky drivers. There were three engines available: a 202-horsepower 4.2-liter V6, a 231-horsepower 4.6-liter V8, and a 300-horsepower 5.4-liter V8. The last of these was also available with flex-fuel capabilities so it can work with E85. Depending on the engine, you can get a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual. Because of its size, the F-150 takes a little bit to feel like it is really moving. However, the 5.4-liter V8 does the best job at this.

The Truck Bed and Exterior Touches

Most people looking at a used 2007 F-150 are more concerned with exterior functionality than style, making the truck bed very important. Depending on the body style you find, you will be able to get a 5.5-, 6.5-, or 8-foot bed to hold your gear. The short beds can come with Flareside flared fenders, while the rest automatically have a slab-sided design known as Styleside. The Regular and SuperCab models have rear doors that are very narrow and can only open when the front doors are open. This might be something to keep in mind, depending on how you plan on using your F-150.

Interior Comfort

For 2007, Ford made improvements to both the support and the comfort of the F-150. So, you should have minimal complaints when driving around in this used pickup. The front can feature dual captain’s chairs or a 40/20/40 bench seat that fits three people. Going with the SuperCab model adds seating for three in the rear, as well. Other than these features, the interior layout can vary dramatically, with options like a full-length floor-mounted console complete with a shift lever and the basic column-mounted gearshift. For those who worry about buying a used truck and missing out on features, the 2007 Ford F-150 was offered with a DVD-based navigation system, so you might find one if you look hard enough.
