25 Most Iconic Sports Cars Ever

Porsche Cayman GT4

The Porsche Cayman GT4 is a relatively recent vehicle, although many elements of this car are reminiscent of the iconic sports cars throughout history. The Cayman GT4 came from Weissach, the same team that made the 911 GT3, which was the 2015 Road & Track Performance Car of the Year. The Cayman GT4 only offers a manual transmission, since that is what automotive enthusiasts want.

Due to constraints related to production capacity, only around 2,500 units of the GT4 were produced around the world, with about half making their way to the United States. The Cayman GT4 was highly sought-after right from the start, with all those models claimed well before its release.

The basic design of the Porsche Cayman GT4 is highly reminiscent of old school hot rods, including the manual transmission, large engine, and small car. The GT4 runs on the same engine from the 911 Carrera S. This 3,800-cc engine is a flat-6 with 7,800 rpm. The difference is that it lost around 2.5 pounds from the 22-pound flywheel. The 6-speed stick shift was reinforced, and the mechanical specs round out with a rear-wheel drive and a mechanical limited-slip differential. Experts agree that the powertrain calibration is the best part of the GT4, which only enhances your driving experience.

The body of the Cayman GT4 is definitely unique as it is made up of parts from various other Caymans, with some of its own elements. There are also reinforcements in spots like the mounting point of the fixed rear spoiler and other key points. The body of the GT4 also has stronger, thicker crossmembers between the strut mounts in the rear upper position. The steering and suspension are copied directly from the 911 GT3, leaving the GT4 to sit 1.2 inches closer to the ground than most Caymans. The Cayman GT4 has a reworked version of the Cayman’s strut-type rear suspension that includes forged split wishbones and new uprights, among other changes. The rear brakes are borrowed from the GT3 while the shocks are Bilsteins.

Sitting inside the cabin of the Cayman GT4 will give you some comfort, including optional bucket seats that are the same as those in the 918 Spyder. They are comfortable even if padding is not generous. The driving position is very similar to that of other Cayman models, although the steering wheel is slightly smaller. You can use the PASM button to stiffen the shocks and more, like a SPORT button.
