25 Fastest Cars On The Planet

#11: 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus

Few cars on this list have made (and never will make) a sub-3-second null-to-60 time with a motor that doesn’t sip air from a massive blower or some turbos. That’s what makes the 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus so special. Yes, the regular version of Audi’s flagship supercar might seem tame on paper compared to the top-tier Lambos and Ferraris of the world, but the V10 Plus shakes the stigma with some crazy numbers.

Rocking a naturally-aspirated 5.2L that screams all the way up to 8,500 RPM in just 0.66 seconds, Audi’s most powerful production car makes null to 60 in 2.6 seconds with surprisingly little effort, and it does so making some of the best sounds of any car on this list. The V10 Plus puts out figures that are quite zany, accomplishing some face-melting moves with 610 horses and 413 torques.

Numbers matter not, though, considering how space-age the V10 Plus is. The motor alone is a test of engineering – to be frank, we’ve heard of few cars that can peak their engine speed in a half second. For how big and burly the V10 Plus looks, it’s quite the lightweight. A curb weight of just 3,684 pounds is accomplished through the use of a carbon fiber tub that wraps around the driver and plenty of carbon fiber and composite bits where a mere mortal’s car would suffer good ole’ steel.

But the true magic rests under the bonnet, where the V10 FSI motor makes all that power in no time. Direct and port injection is required to feed the beast and stay on pace with its flat plane crank, while its S Tronic transmission maintains a wildly short set of gear ratios between gears 3 and 7 to keep the powerband fresh up to its soul-crushing top speed of 210 MPH.
