The 2019 BMW X4 is a luxury crossover SUV with a curvy shape, taut suspension, and redesign for the latest model year. There are two X4 engines to choose from, each of which gives you a unique set of features to enjoy as well as a unique name. Either way, you will get plenty of luxury and the latest technology, such as a responsive touchscreen.
Powertrains
The base 2019 X4 is the xDrive30i, which uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that has linear power delivery. It has all-wheel drive and gets 25 mpg combined. Or you can opt for the X4 M40i with its 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder for 355 horsepower along with 365 pound-feet of torque. This latter engine needs just over four seconds to reach 60 mph. It also features enhancements to the chassis, such as the option of an active locking rear differential. The X4 borrows suspension components from the X3 with its own unique suspension tuning that takes advantage of the SUV’s lower center of gravity. The suspension components are lightweight, allowing for quicker reactions.
Exterior
The X4 comes with standard 19-inch wheels and the option to upgrade to 21-inch versions. Those wheels combine with the tightly pulled creases to deliver an athletic appearance despite riding higher than a sports sedan. The rear portion of the crossover SUV ports form ahead of function; the roof dives backward before reaching the truncated tail, which can make things a little awkward when getting into the rear seat, although you will be comfortable once you get there.
Interior
There will be no question as to whether the 2019 BMW X4 delivers enough interior space for drivers to enjoy. The wheelbase has extended, giving rear-seat passengers extra room. The interior design for the 2019 model year better matches the styling of the rest of the BMW lineup than it did the previous year. There is an emphasis on soft-touch surfaces and slim styling, helping it feel organized and clean. You will find luxury features like leather surfaces, satellite radio, and keyless ignition available.
Standard Features
While BMW reserves some features on the X4 for expensive upgrades, like keyless ignition, the base xDrive30i does come with a sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, automatic wipers, LED headlights, a power liftgate, selectable drive modes, a sunroof, and rear and front parking sensors. Inside, you get dual-zone automatic climate control, driver’s memory settings for the power-adjustable front seats, simulated leather, rear seats that split 40/20/40, and plenty of tech.
Technology
All models come with a 10.3-inch touchscreen that features infotainment and navigation plus an Apple CarPlay trial. This is an important difference from other automakers that offer Apple CarPlay for free without a subscription required. Other standard technology includes BMW Assist emergency telematics, Bluetooth, 12 speakers, and the iDrive infotainment system. There is also an exhaustive list of options and packages to customize the 2019 X4.
In terms of safety, the X4 comes with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. You also can add extra active safety tech. Enjoy adaptive cruise control that features stop-and-go, a head-up display, active lane control, and the surround-view camera system, each of which requires an upgrade.
