2018 Ford Mustang GT Review

There are actually two versions of the 2018 Ford Mustang GT, the GT Fastback and the GT Premium Fastback. Either way, you get a more modern take on the iconic styling of the Mustang GT, complete with the iconic Mustang emblem on the front grille. At a glance, the Mustang GT looks sporty, and it has the specifications to match. The Mustang GT is certainly not practical for a family car since it only seats four, but it does well if your goal is a performance-themed auto.

Listen to It Roar to Life

The powertrain under the hood of the 2018 Mustang GT will not disappoint you, unless you expected top fuel economy. Even so, 25 mpg on the highway is a very reasonable figure given the GT’s output. The 5-liter V8 is the stuff of legends. However, it features updates to maximize power to deliver 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Just some of those technologies are low-pressure port fuel injection and dual-fuel high-pressure direct injection.

Track Apps

The Track Apps is a very useful feature on the 2018 Ford Mustang GT that most drivers are likely to use. This technology comes standard and delivers performance metrics right in your instrument cluster. This way, you can see countdown and automatic starts, lap times, acceleration times, longitudinal G-forces, and more. Manual transmission models also get launch control to maximize your performance on the track.

Iconic Styling

Looking at the Mustang GT shows you a sports car that is definitely different than it was several decades ago, but it still has hints of the original styling. In addition to smooth lines and a muscular stance, the GT Fastback comes with LEDs for headlamps, signature lighting, front park turn lamps, sequential taillamps, and fog lamps. The mirrors have integrated blind spot mirrors for added safety. In addition, the rear of the Mustang gets a heavy dose of style and functionality with the rear diffuser and raised blade decklid spoiler.

Sporty Comfort

The interior of the Ford Mustang GT delivers comfort with a definite sporty feel. Just remember that because this model focuses on sportiness, some features are optional instead of standard, such as dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control. (Manual controls are standard.) Even so, you get leather on the steering wheel and parking brake, MyKey, and Ford’s SYNC infotainment system with the option of SYNC 3. For comfort, both front seats come standard with 6-way power, and the rear seats split 50/50. On the GT Premium Fastback, the front seats are trimmed in leather, heated, and cooled or can be swapped out for RECARO leather sport seats.

Advanced Safety

To give you some additional confidence when driving around, the 2018 Mustang GT comes standard with all the safety features you need. However, it offers more as options or as standard on the GT Premium Fastback. You always get the LATCH system, a rearview camera, an SOS Post-Crash Alert System, a Reverse Sensing System, and numerous airbags. You can add additional advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies, like Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Rain-Sensing Wipers, Adaptive Cruise Control, and a Lane Keeping System.
