The Ford Mustang Cobra went by many names, including the SVT Mustang Cobra, and the automaker built it from 1993 to 2004. Many enthusiasts feel that the Mustang Cobra is among the coolest cars ever, not just from its decade, and love the way it looks on the road. The Mustang Cobra was created to deliver a high-performance model to slot above the Mustang GT. This model had limited production and was incredibly powerful, appealing to racers and collectors alike.

When the Cobra debuted during the 1992 Chicago Auto Show, it looked similar to the Mustang GT for 1993, but it had a V8 with 235 horsepower and the ability to reach 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. 5,100 models were produced, each of which had an upgraded suspension for a gentle ride.

The Mustang Cobra R is perhaps even more exciting than the regular Cobra, with its vibrant red, engine cooler, improved wheels, power steering, enhanced breaks, and focus on engine speed and power. Finding a Cobra R today is a real challenge, as only 107 were made. The focus was also on performance instead of comfort, so there wasn’t a stereo or air conditioning.

In mid-1994, the engine of the Mustang Cobra got a bit more powerful, the bumper was upgraded, and the wheelbase got wider. The 1995 Cobra also offered a removable hardtop and a limited-production R version. Throughout the rest of the 1990s, the improvements were mostly to design, making the engine smaller and adding in those air inlets to the hood that most people associate with the Cobra. There was even a 1996 Mystic Cobra with paint that changed shades based on the angle. In addition to limited numbers, only specific dealerships could sell SVT products from Ford, making the Cobra even harder to get ahold of.
