Alfa Romeo GTV
The Alfa Romeo GTV was available for the 1995 to 2005 model year with its Spider counterpart available as 1995 to 2006 models. You may see this model referred to as 916, the internal designation from Alfa Romeo. The GTV is a coupe with a 2+2 seating configuration, while the Spider seats two in a coupe style. These models were based on a heavily modified version of the Tipo platform also found on the Fiat Coupe. However, Alfa Romeo engineers gave it front-wheel-drive handling that couldn’t be beaten. The suspension and steering were both tuned to beat the existing coupes, and the body was super stiff.
The GTV was available with the 3-liter V6 from Twin Spark and Busso, and all models were fun. Among classic cars, you should find it moderately easy to find an Alfa Romeo GTV if you want to drive this cool auto. 270,000 were produced, and an estimated 3,263 remain today. The numbers are dropping, however, since repairs can be very costly.
The design of the GTV comes courtesy of Pininfarina’s Enrico Fumia. Despite arriving in 1995, the design actually began in 1987, with a scale model in clay the following year. Once the designing was complete, the drag coefficient of the GTV was 0.33, with the Spider version at 0.38.
The various styling elements are expected from an Italian vehicle, including the Alfa Romeo grille featuring dual round headlights similar to those from the 1991 Proteo. It also has a high, kicked-up tail and low nose with a Kamm tail in the back for enhanced aerodynamics. On the Spider counterpart, the rear was rounded, and there was a folding soft-top. Look closer at the details, and you will notice a one-piece strip of lighting for lamps, indicators, and fog lamps.
