20 Amazing Cars from the 1990’s

Lincoln Navigator

1999 Navigator

Even today, the Lincoln Navigator is considered a leader in the automotive industry, and that was certainly the case when it arrived during the late 1990s. The very first model year was the 1998 Navigator, the luxurious version of the Ford Expedition.

This auto holds the title of the heaviest of all Lincoln production models built. It is also the Lincoln to have the largest cargo capacity and the first to seat more than six people without being a limousine. The Navigator entered the market with the ability to seat eight passengers and a 5.4-liter V8 powertrain. Of course, its V8 engine, large size, and heavy weight meant that it only got 13 combined mpg, broken down into 11 in the city and 15 on the highway.

The really amazing part of the Navigator is all of its features, which were just as impressive at its release as they are on the latest model, at least for the time. The premium leather seating combined with burled walnut trim ensured you knew you were in a luxury vehicle, as did the soft-feel instrument panel, door panels, and floor console. The steering wheel even had leather and wood along with controls. The captain’s chair bucket seating led the segment, and there was an incredible amount of storage throughout the cabin via dual cup holders, storage compartments that could hold a laptop, two large center consoles, and more. It even had 116 cubic feet of cargo.

To make the Lincoln Navigator even more impressive, it was available with a power moonroof, electrochromic rearview mirror, auxiliary climate controls, universal garage door opener, an 8-inch subwoofer, six-disc CD changer, auto-reverse cassette, rear-seat audio controls, and more.
